The developers of a new ecologically sustainable housing subdivision have chosen the highly successful Galway Green Estate (just a few minutes north of the Australind Shopping Centre) for a new ‘Green Smart' housing project.
Comprising 17 architecturally designed houses, 15 lots are available, including two storey designs offering a number of options to suit owner requirements. All comply with the industry rules set down for sustainable housing and Green Smart accreditation.
For Green Smart accreditation all homes incorporate a number of guidelines. These include the types of building materials used, recycling of grey water, utilisation of energy efficient materials and appliances, storm water management and waste management.
In a recent statement the WA Local Government Association president, Bill Mitchell said "Housing sustainability and affordability had to be balanced and that everyone realises our resources are limited and we might have to take responsibility for that" (The West Australian newspaper Saturday July 15th 2006).
According to the project's developers Green Smart housing will play an important role in reducing home owner's energy costs. They also added that the Galway Grove ecologically sustainable housing project is leading the way in a growing trend to provide energy efficient housing in harmony with our environment.
